About A Cappella Quinte

A Cappella Quinte (ACQ) is a men’s chorus with around 30 members. ACQ is the performance chorus of the Quinte Regional Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. It was established in May, 1973 as the Trenton Chapter, and later expanded to the Quinte Region. The chorus was formerly called The Trentones.

We are a non-profit, volunteer organization which regularly contributes to a number of charities and good causes primarily related to speech and language pathology, and music education. Two examples are Harmonize4Speech and Sing Canada Harmony.

Our mission and purpose are those of the Barbershop Harmony Society.

Mission:

The Barbershop Harmony Society brings men together in harmony and fellowship to enrich lives through singing.

Purpose:

  • Perpetuate and celebrate harmony in the barbershop style.
  • Promote fellowship and friendship among men of good will.
  • Provide the opportunity to experience the joy of four-part a cappella singing.
  • Introduce and sustain music in the lives of people everywhere.

The Music

A Cappella Quinte sings four part harmony without instrumental accompaniment. Not all of our music is in the barbershop style and our repertoire includes songs ranging from the turn of the last century to the turn of this one.

We also have an extensive Christmas repertoire and make a point of visiting numerous retirement residences on our annual Christmas tour. Non-member guests are encouraged to start seasonal rehearsals with us in the Fall and help us spread some good cheer at Christmas time. It’s free and there are no obligations. It’s fun and a good deed well done.
